Despite President Trump’s Inauguration Day ACA Executive Order, the IRS continues to impose the penalty on those who do not have minimum essential coverage. In response to a letter from Congressman Bill Huizenga (R-MI), the IRS maintained “there was no provision in the ACA for waiver of the mandate penalty and the Executive Order does not change the law; the legislative provisions of the ACA are still in force until changed by the Congress.”
The following is the per person cost for 2017:
- $695 per adult
- $347.50 per child under 18
- Maximum: $2,085
- If you are uncovered for only 1 to 2 months, you don’t pay the fee. If you have coverage for part of the year, the fee is 1/12 of the annual amount for each month you (or your tax dependents) don’t have coverage.
